Our Director of Projects, David Beggs, has embarked on yet another adventure and recently cycled to the Eiffel Tower in support of East Surrey YMCA. The team started the ride at the Surrey YMCA and then headed to Newhaven to catch the ferry to Dieppe. After a well-deserved rest on the boat, the team then continued the rest of their journey through the French countryside and cycled an impressive 135 miles to Paris.
Despite the searing temperatures and lack of sleep, the team completed the trip in time for well-deserved drinks and, in the process, managed to raise an astounding £26,356! This money will help to create a new disability sports, fitness and wellbeing facility in East Surrey, designed to inspire and support people of all ages and abilities. It will offer a wide programme of disability sports, rehabilitation and preventative health activities, with the aim of creating a culture of inclusivity within the community. It is hoped this new facility will become a centre of excellence, empowering those with long-term health conditions to lead healthy, active and fulfilling lives.
David says: “It’s a long way but the route takes you through some fantastic scenery, so as well as being for a good cause, it is an enjoyable day out. In our day-to-day work it is easy to lose our links with the local community, so this was a good opportunity to give something back.”
